Survey of Canadian Counselling Psychology Students

This survey is intended for students who are student members of the Counselling Psychology Section. Both Master’s and Doctoral Students are welcome to participate.

The purpose of this research study is to gain knowledge of Canadian counselling psychology students’ understanding of and practice of counselling psychology in Canada. Through a survey method of inquiry, the results of this study will aid in educating the wider public as well as the field of counselling psychology about its nature and practice across Canada

There is a $15 Tim Horton’s (restaurant) gift card for participation.

Early Registration Deadline Approaching!

As you know, the 2015 CPA Convention is just a month away!

Draft Revision of the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists – Request for Comment

Consistent with the commitment of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to regularly review and update the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists, the Association’s Committee on Ethics has developed a draft revision following an extensive review process. Comments on the draft revision are now being invited and would be very much appreciated. The deadline for comments is 25 May 2015. Background information and a link to the draft revision can be found online. A line-by-line comparison of the draft revision with the 2000 Code (showing tracked changes) for those wishing to have that level of detail for comment purposes is also provided online.

As with all previous drafts versions of the Code over the years, comments are welcome from individuals or groups, from psychologists or members of other disciplines, and from members of the public.

Psynopsis Magazine – Call for Submissions (Understanding Suicide)
The summer 2015 issue of Psynopsis Magazine – Canada’s Psychology Magazine, is devoted to Understanding Suicide. We are inviting submissions from researchers and practitioners that offer information and perspective about preventing suicide, managing suicidal risk and associated mental disorders, working with stakeholders and family and indications for strategy and social policy. Send 400-900 words by June 1st to Managing Editor, Tyler Stacey-Holmes (styler@cpa.ca).

Psynopsis – Appel d’articles (Comprendre le suicide)
Le numéro d’été de Psynopsis – le magazine des psychologues du Canada – aura pour thème « Comprendre le suicide ». Les chercheurs et les praticiens qui ont des connaissances sur le suicide et des points de vue particuliers sur la prévention du suicide, la gestion du risque suicidaire et des troubles mentaux associés, le travail auprès des intervenants et des familles et les stratégies et les politiques sociales en matière de suicide sont invités à soumettre un article. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS – PSYNOPSIS MAGAZINE

Spring 2015: Crisis Response / First Responders:

Psynopsis Magazine is inviting submissions from researchers and practitioners that offer information and perspective about the issues, factors and considerations when psychologists and other stakeholders respond to crisis and engage in crisis management.
The focus is more on first response (crisis management) rather than tertiary response (treatment for PTSD). First response can include a diversity of responders and settings – policing or other correctional service response, health community response to medical crises (e.g SARS), social or health service response to environmental or political crises, health provider and educators responses to crises and issues within school communities.

Name our Newsletter – CONTEST

The CPA Counselling Psychology Section is pleased to announce the launch of a contest to name our newsletter. Our newsletter is currently titled, “CPA Counsellor: Newsletter of the Counselling Psychology Section.” The contest opens March 1st, 2015 and closes May 1st, 2015 at 11:59pm Pacific Time. The winner will receive a $50 Amazon gift card.

Submissions will be judged across criteria such as: creativity/”catchiness,” how well it captures the typical content in our newsletter, and how well it reflects the definition of Counselling Psychology, as adopted by CPA (see: http://cpa.ca/aboutcpa/cpasections/counsellingpsychology).

The contest is open to all members of the CPA Counselling Psychology Section (full, student, affiliates etc.). Individuals are welcome to join the Section at the same time as entry submission (http://cpa.ca/membership/becomeamemberofcpa/).

The submissions will be judged by the Section Executive.
